Recycling
 We
have long recognized the importance of waste reduction
and recycling for the proper management of solid wastes.
Senior members of CalRecovery have developed professionally
at the same time as the recycling industry. We have
participated in projects dealing with basic research
and pilot- and large-scale resource recovery. In addition,
we have designed and evaluated options that range
from labor-intensive to mechanical- and energy-intensive.
Our experience extends from simple, low-cost processes
to highly complex and costly approaches.
| National
Science Foundation (NSF) -- The project
investigated equipment used at recycling centers
in order to assess the operation, performance,
and utility of the equipment in meeting its assigned
task. The overall program included an equipment
inventory, equipment testing and evaluation, and
an analysis of alternative methods and equipment
for the recovery of recyclable materials at recycling
centers. |
| City
of San Jose, California -- Technical assistance
was provided to the City related to the procurement
of rest waste (garbage), recyclables, and yard
waste collection services. The company supported
the City by collecting data and analyzing various
alternatives, including advantages and disadvantages
of using different types and configurations of
carts. Specifications and performance criteria
were prepared and submitted to the City for incorporation
into the Request for Proposals (RFP) for collection
service. |
| People's
Republic of China -- This project included
work in Shanghai, Ningbo, Dalian, and Beijing
and involved close cooperation with the National
Patriotic Health Campaign Committee of the Ministry
of Health. Assistance was provided in the identification
of problems associated with MSW management and
recommendation of corrective measures; advice
on cost-effective methods for collection, transport,
transfer, treatment, and disposal of solid waste;
assistance in development and training of manpower
in different aspects of SWM; and evaluation of
existing systems and equipment used. |
