Processing
Our
personnel have accumulated more than 25 years of expertise
in the field of waste processing. This experience
ranges from the testing and evaluation of individual
unit processes to the design of small-, medium- and
large-scale facilities. We were some of the first
scientists to conduct comprehensive tests of various
types of equipment, as well as to develop and promote
the thorough integration of the systems.
This
work dealt with the analysis of size reduction as
a means of processing solid waste for resource recovery
during long-duration, crewed space missions. Size
reduction equipment was designed, constructed, and
tested, and its performance measured. The materials
were size reduced under various operating conditions.
Several parameters were measured and calculated during
the study, including the specific energy required
for reducing waste to various product sizes.

City, Mexico -- CalRecovery provided technical
assistance in the implementation of a solid waste
materials recycling facility. The initial plan
was to design and build three 1,500 TPD facilities.
Eventually, only one facility was completed. CalRecovery
personnel also conducted a marketing study to
identify the users of the secondary materials
and reviewed existing solid waste stream data
and identified data gaps. |
| U.S.
EPA -- CalRecovery was a member of a team
selected to prepare a comprehensive manual for
evaluating, developing, and designing various
types of materials recovery facilities (MRFs).
The document supports an integrated waste management
software program developed to assist public officials
and decision-makers in implementing recycling
programs. The manual has received national and
international recognition as a facility design
tool. |
