Marketing

We have served as a marketing consultant to a large cross section of the waste industry, in various parts of the world, including Peru, the Philippines, Mexico, and Paraguay. In the area of marketing compost, recyclables, and energy from waste, our experience includes work for municipal and federal agencies, and for a wide range of private clients. CalRecovery has sought and/or secured procurement contracts for compost, plastics, recycled metals, as well as fluff RDF and densified RDF recovered from MSW.

Metropolitan Service District, Portland Oregon -- A marketing analysis was conducted for organic soil amendments in the Metro area. Special emphasis was placed on the assessment of the markets for composts produced from yard debris and sludge, and how these markets would be impacted by the introduction of compost produced from municipal solid waste. The study also evaluated transportation costs, the potential impact of retaliatory pricing, and future market niches for the various organic soil amendments.

New York City, New York -- A market assessment and development study for recyclables was conducted for the City of New York. The study included an assessment of the potential supply and demand of approximately 20 recyclable material categories and subcategories over a 15-year project period. Based on the analyses, medium- and long-term market prices for recovered recyclables were identified that would encourage future demand growth to accommodate the future supply of the secondary materials. The results of this work were used to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement for the City's recycling program.

U.S. EPA -- A nationwide market study of composts from yard debris and municipal solid waste was conducted. The study assessed the existing status of marketing efforts and evaluated competitive products to the composts and their specifications, uses, and marketing efforts.

Sacramento County Regional Sanitation District -- Assistance was provided to the Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District in the area of biosolids composting. CalRecovery completed an analysis of bulking agents which took into consideration availability, effect on the composting process, effect on product quality, and impact on local waste management goals. CalRecovery also conducted a market assessment, which involved a written survey of potential users, formation of a market advisory panel with representatives from relevant groups, and site visits with interested parties.
