CalRecovery is a consulting engineering firm specializing in solid waste and resource management. The company was founded in 1975 for the specific purposes of designing and implementing systems and programs to minimize quantities of wastes being disposed and maximizing utilization of discarded materials.

The solid waste consulting services provided by CalRecovery include project management, engineering design and implementation, field test evaluation, technical assistance, research and development efforts, feasibility studies, public relations, regulatory impacts, environmental assessments, and marketing and economic evaluations. CalRecovery uses an integrated approach to achieve the optimal use of conventional resources, while reducing the quantities of waste ultimately disposed.

CalRecovery has performed work for a long list of U.S. and international clients for both public and private sectors in North America, Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe. Luis F. Diaz, Ph.D., President
Dr. Diaz has earned an international reputation as an expert in all aspects of solid waste management. Since the mid-1970s, he has been 
involved in the evaluation of existing systems and conditions, the preparation of solid and hazardous waste management plans and 
guidelines, and the preparation of environmental action plans for several public and private entities in the United States and in other 
countries. His experience in waste processing technologies includes recycling, composting, renewable energy, 
mechanical processing, and anaerobic digestion.

Dr. Diaz received a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

George M. Savage, P.E., Executive Vice President
Mr. Savage has been involved in various aspects of solid waste management since the early 1970s. He has an international reputation in the 
area of waste processing technologies and in the characterization of the solid waste stream for purposes of system design. He is the author of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard method for characterizing municipal solid waste, a method that serves as an industry standard. He has participated in numerous studies involving technical, economic, and environmental evaluations of potential waste management and resource recovery systems. His experience includes design of waste processing and materials recovery and conversion systems, and participation in numerous studies involving technical, economic, and environmental evaluations of waste management and resource recovery systems.

Mr. Savage is a registered professional engineer. He received an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
